First set of logos

This is my first set of logos. I used the slab-serif typeface Clarendon, as I think that evokes the right time-period and has been used for many jazz covers in the past. Colorwise I went with a simple scheme of black/gray/light blue/and possibly working in some orange. (click image to view at 100%)

Two things really stand out when I look at all the designs you have been working on.
1. You definitely need to have the circle in the logo somewhere.
2. The phonograph arm in one of the logos would be a great tool to use in the design.
What I'm thinking of when I mash all these designs together is taking the circle and combining it with the arm to create the image of a record. I like this because this age is associated with records. You might be able to utilize the hole in the record to use in the Re:Take colon or maybe you just use the one hole to separate the Re and Take. I love the blue, black and white approach to the palette. I would definitely stay with the cooler colors and not anything else.

I love what you have done! First of all, the color palette is so soothing and just wonderful. It is simple enough for the logo to really be the standout, but interesting enough to keep me looking. I love the use of the record. It is simple and really clear as to what RE:take is about. I would say, in my humble opinion, that the comps where you have the RE:TA and then the KE on the next line is a bit confusing. I love the concept, but I think it could be a little bit lost in translation. I also really like the one where you have the RE above the box, then TAKE inside and RECORDS on its side next to that. It is so clean and modern, yet really does evoke a feeling of jazz. I'm excited to see what you pick!

Great suggestions both of you- I appreciate it. I think moving ahead I am going to look at combining the simple circular record with the record arm and possibly working the middle hole of the record into the colon (or replacing it).

I really enjoyed reading about your business concept. I think it's smart and narrows in on a specific clientele who I could easily see pledging their loyalty to the store. I think re:take and the components you use like the record and eventually the phonograph arm are strong indicators as to what re:take is all about. I agree that the logos enclosed in the circle are the strongest. I like the color palette because it's modern and soothing like jazz but at the same time I think jazz can be very passionate and soulful. This may be too crazy but I'd be curious to see how incorporating a "hot" color very subtly, like the orange you alluded to earlier, as an accent would work in the design. There is this affect that I've seen where images and type look worn and somewhat faded (sorry this really isn't a good description). Maybe using an effect like this on the record or the phonograph could be interesting and would be in line with the vintage/archive feel of the lost recordings. Either way, you've done a great job of merging the old with the new. I look forward to seeing the finished product.
